WOW! the new Autodesk Building Design Suite Ultimate is over 28 GB! How crazy is that? Good thing I don’t have to download them… It comes in a cool little USB stick! It sure beats my Sandisk USB stick dangling on my key chain! Why can’t Microsoft send me server tools via USB?
And if you’re wondering how Building Design Suites play with your existing software installations, here’s a link to the much anticipated 2012 cascading information. It’ll show you how each software acts when it tries to get a license. Exciting eh?
HUGE shout out to Karen Lewis, our director of marketing of Microsol Resources, for coordinating an amazingly successful event. Originally slated for the Rose Auditorium in the new Cooper Union building, we had moved the event to the Foundation Building in The Great Hall for the enormous interest. Did you know that The Great Hall once had 8 presidents had spoken there since it’s opening in 1858, with Lincoln accounting his own presidency to his speech in The Great Hall in 1860?! Sounds awesome? It is!
We have had our own 3D printer grace our offices for the past year or so, and we’re always looking for things to print. Our offices have printed stuff all over the place, along very detailed models that spin, rotate, and flip to mimic real objects (steering column, ball bearings, wrenches, screw cap bottle). Yes, you can print components that move with the Z Corp machines. It’s a lot cheaper than most people imagine, and the detail is amazing. If you’re awesome enough to tour firms like Pelli or Foster, ask to check out their 3D printing labs and see for yourself. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Some people have been asking (by CALLING MIND YOU!) for their 2011 media. Out of the big pool that is expected, only three products of the AutoCAD family is available (AutoCAD [tried and true, old school], AutoCAD LT [YUCK!] & AutoCAD Architecture). If you want it NOW, log into the subscription center and start your downloads! Can’t find the right links?
When you log into subscription center, that orange button is the place you want to click “GET YOUR UPGRADES”
Then you’ll see the below screen on the left… click on the software you want to download. VOILA! It’s that simple!!!
And if your internet connection is crappy, then you might want to order a DVD: Left hand navigation area, click on “Request a DVD/CD” and fill out the form. PLEASE make sure you order what you need. Did you know that every month, about 100,000 pounds of DVD/CD are disposed of? YIKES! Help reduce your footprint and order only what you MUST order.
In case you’re wondering, there’s an email out that went out from Autodesk that clearly says that new media will NOT be shipped; you’ll have to download them yourself from subscription center. What a joy! It’s not uncommon though, Microsoft started doing the same thing last year I believe.
That scary email you’ll be getting (or already got… gotten? HA!):
If you didn’t get the email but need documentation and/or media, go to this link: Autodesk Documents & Media and you’ll see this screenshot:
